Peruvian Artist Visit

Peruvian artist Nicario Jiménez, featured in Sunday's Commercial Appeal (Fanfare, H1), will visit the Croft Institute for International Studies on Thursday, February 25th, at 4 p.m.

Mr. Jiménez will deliver a lecture about his "retablos", or portable shrines. These retablos, first used by the Spanish in their religious quest, are wooden boxes containing figures created from many materials, including boiled potato and plaster of Paris. From the town of Ayacucho, Jiménez and his father mastered the craft and sold the boxes to traders.

The artist has moved beyond religious themes in tackling contemporary history and politics. Make sure and drop by the Croft Institute at 4 on Thursday, Feb 25th!

Brown Bag Lecture

International student Pete Slade will give a Brown Bag Lecture in Barnard Observatory on Wednesday 17th at 12:00.  It will be on the Gospel choir at the University and will feature members of the choir singing.
