The Croft Institute for International Studies and the University of Mississippi School of Law host a public lecture by Professor Bernhard Schloh entitled "The European Union and the United States: Cooperation and Conflicts".
Friday, February 19, 1999 at 1:00 pm in the William N. Etheridge, Jr. Moot Court Room.
Free and open to the public with a reception following.
Peruvian artist Nicario Jiménez, featured in Sunday's Commercial
Appeal (Fanfare, H1), will visit the Croft
Institute for International Studies on
Thursday, February 25th, at 4 p.m.
Mr. Jiménez will deliver a lecture about his "retablos", or portable shrines. These retablos, first used by the Spanish in their religious quest, are wooden boxes containing figures created from many materials, including boiled potato and plaster of Paris. From the town of Ayacucho, Jiménez and his father mastered the craft and sold the boxes to traders.
The artist has moved beyond religious themes in tackling contemporary history and politics. Make sure and drop by the Croft Institute at 4 on Thursday, Feb 25th!
