IT Organization
IT reports to the
Vice Chancellor for Administration and Finance and operates under the direction of the Chief Information Officer. IT is organized around the the following divisions:- Academic Computing

News and Accomplishments
- Through a partnership with Sun and SAP, UM serves as a Sun Center of Excellence focusing on innovation in enterprise computing.
- UM's Online Police Directory and Administration System won first place in the 2007 Mississippi IHL "Best Practices" competition's Technology category.
- IT's Jie Tang, Chris Provence and others, in a joint entry with the Graduate School, won first place in the technology category of the 2006 Mississippi IHL "Best Practices" competition for their submission entitled, "Graduate Admissions Workflow with Digital Imaging." This project is part of the campus-wide digital imaging system.
- In Spring 2006, UM's Online Financial Aid Interface was recognized by the Mississippi IHL as a "Best Practice." This was a collaborative project between IT and the Office of Financial Aid. Veena Mantena served as the technical lead for this project.
- UM served as the North American pilot for SAP's student information system known as Campus Management.
- UM faculty and students enjoy state-of-the-art instructional technology facilities made possible through a gift by Will and Suzanne Galtney.
- UM is a member of Internet2.
- IT staff members are active in professional organizations such as EDUCAUSE, the SAP Higher Education and Research User Group (HERUG), the America's SAP Users' Group (ASUG), and the SGI Users Group. In May 2006, Al Ling presented at the annual ASUG conference on UM's Biller Direct project. Kathy Gates is currently serving as program chair for the 2007 EDUCAUSE Southeastern Regional Conference (SERC).
