Installing Local, Separately Purchased SPSS Modules, Locally, to Work in Conjunction With the UM Network Licenese for SPSS

1. First perform the regular Network license installation as documented in the Network License Installation Instructions.pdf and Network License Administrator's Guide.pdf files found on the installation CD.

2. You'll need a utility called spssactivator.exe. Please download the zip file from the following location:

ftp://ftp.spss.com/pub/spss/windows/spssactivator.zip
and extract spssactivator.exe using an unzip utility.

3. Copy spssactivator.exe into the application's installation directory. If prompted to overwrite an existing file, do so only if the file you are replacing is older.

4. Open a command prompt (Start->Run, type 'cmd' and enter), and then change directory to the SPSS installation folder. For example:
cd "c:\Program Files\SPSS"

5. Run the following spssactivator command line:

spssactivator authcode1[:authcode2:...:authcodeN] [proxy-userid] [proxy-password]

Note: The characters of the authorization code must be specified in all lowercase. Multiple authorization codes must be separated by colons. The proxy-userid and proxy-password parameters are not necessary unless you require a user name and password to access the internet. If you do use a proxy to access the internet, you must have your proxy server settings defined in Internet Explorer options. To verify, open Internet Explorer, go to Tools->Options, select the 'Connections' tab, and click the 'LAN Settings' button. Make sure the 'Use a proxy server for your LAN' box is checked and that your proxy server and port are specified. If your proxy server settings are not listed here, you may not be able to automate licensing.

For example:

spssactivator authcode1:authcode2:authcode3 proxyuserid proxypassword

That will create a local license file in the \SPSS folder containing a license for just the individual module(s) you are adding. When SPSS is launched, the Base license will be pulled from the network license manager, and the purchased individual add-on module will be licensed locally.
