Purpose:
To encourage the creation of a consistent and enjoyable UM Web experience that extends through all levels of the University Web site by equipping departmental webmasters with the necessary tools and skills.
Topics and Goals:
- Educate campus webmasters in the use of software and good practices
- Review guidelines and policies governing the UM Web site
- Increase awareness regarding site accessibility concerns
- Inform webmasters about templates created by Publications as well as other University support available
- Encourage a consistent look and feel across UM Web sites, including the use of standardized navigational aids, colors, link appearances, official graphics, etc.
- Instruct participants in archiving old files and obsolete portions of departmental Web sites
- Improve the general performance of the UM Web site
- Enhance the online presences of the University
Dates:
Week 1 - July 17 through 2, 2006
Week2 - July 31 through August 4, 2006
Follow-up - Late October
Requirements:
A participating webmaster must be sponsored by his or her department and should be committed to working there at least through the end of the calendar year. Participants must agree to improve their departmental Web sites and demonstrate their work at a follow-up session in late October.
Benefits:
Participating departments will receive the Adobe Web Bundle (including the latest versions of all the Adobe and Macromedia Web design and development software) and books on a variety of Web design topics. This package is valued at approximately $500.
