As you read this you may be in an office of a Mississippi newspaper or television station or you may be in the newsroom of a major metro daily in New York, Los Angeles or Beijing. Wherever you are, the Ole Miss j-department wants to be able to keep up with you. Not just so we know how our graduates are using the skills they learned in the j-department, but also so we can congratulate you for your successes in life.
To that end, the j-department is starting state alumni networks to better inform and educate alumni of upcoming events and important announcements. These networks will also give you access to the web of journalists in your area who you may have never known were so close. These networks can provide support, opportunity or just a chance to catch up with old classmates. Whatever reason you use the alumni network for, it will be a way to connect the thousands of Ole Miss j-department graduates around the globe.
We are looking not only for individuals wishing to be a part of these networks, but also individuals willing to take charge and spearhead the individual state networks. These individuals will be in charge of communicating local news and events that may be of interest to network members. They also have the freedom to plan events such as reunions or gatherings to reconnect with fellow j-department journalists.
If you are interested in spearheading or joining one of these networks pease send an e-mail here to the department with the subject line of 'alumni networks.' We would love to hear from you, and keep you up-to-date with the exciting changes going on here at the Ole Miss j-department.
Please note: Feel free to inform of us any new developments that take place in your career or the careers of your classmates and fellow j-department graduates. E-mail us here to keep us up to date with your information and success.
