The idea behind Mzine:
Mzine has been an idea trying to be born. For the last few years, the concept behind Mzine has been rattling around in the minds of the faculty of the j-department. Over the past two semesters it has gone from an idea to a work-in-progress concept. The early stages of Mzine saw it as a print product; but as we all know: society, technology and information all move at the speed of light. That is why this semester Mzine has changed once more and is now the online, digital news magazine you see before you.
Mzine knows that media is everywhere, and that the need to know information is not tied to a certain medium. You may have your paper in the morning with your coffee, you may have your magazines in the evening in your easy chair and you may have the news on the radio as you go to work or run your errands, but now you can have your Mzine anytime. Whether it is sitting at your desk, checking your email at home or reading stories you have printed out from this website, Mzine can be a part of your day no matter the circumstances.
Please feel free to use the tabs above to navigate through the "pages" of our publication and learn things about people and issues you never knew. And don't forget to check back often; we will be updating regularly to keep you informed. So go ahead, read every word we give you. We won't complain.
We want to hear from you: Here at Mzine we don't try to say we know everything you want to read about, so please, email, call, write, visit; do whatever it takes to let us know how we are doing and what we can do to be a better publication. So go ahead and click that Contact Us tab at the top of the page. We value our readers and we want to know what you think.
The uniqueness of Mzine:
Mzine isn't some side project of the faculty here at Ole Miss, it is a completely student produced publication. From the writing to the design to the photography, our j-department students bring you the content you read here each time you visit. Here at the j-department we don't want to do anything that doesn't make our students better journalists and citizens. It takes a lot of work to put together a publication like this, but remember that without the passion of the young journalists we have as students, the j-department faculty couldn't make Mzine a reality.
