Alumnus tapped by IHL
to lead coastal campus recovery
Robert Bass (JD 79) was named project director of Gulf Coast operations by the Mississippi Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning.
Bass, the former executive director of the Mississippi State Personnel Board, will be responsible for assessing and meeting the changing educational needs of the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He will oversee the rehabilitation of the University of Southern Mississippi Gulf Park campus and the establishment of an additional coast campus for USM.
From 1997 to 2004, prior to joining the State Personnel Board, Bass served as mayor of Long Beach. He is an attorney and a board-certified accountant.
‘Best lawyer’ picked for ACTL committee
Steven L. Thomas (JD 73) was appointed vice chair of the state committee of the American College of Trial Lawyers.
Thomas is a partner in the Jackson office of Bradley, Arant, Rose & White, LLP, and a member of the firm’s litigation practice group. He served as president of the local bar association and member of the Governor’s State Judicial Appointment Advisory Board. He also is listed in the 2006 edition of The Best Lawyers in America.
Founded in 1950, the ACTL comprises some of the nation’s most prestigious trial lawyers.
