The Graduate Assistance in Areas of National Need (GAANN) program provides fellowships in mathematics to assist graduate students with excellent records who demonstrate financial need and plan to pursue the Ph.D. in mathematics With support from the GAANN program, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, The University of Mississippi's Department of Mathematics seeks to expand its outreach to all under-represented groups. Primary emphasis is on recruitment and retention of African-American and female students who wish to complete the Ph.D. program to pursue a career in teaching, industry, or research.
