Mitigation and Characterization of Natural Hazards

Mississippi is vulnerable to a number of natural hazards including earthquakes, ice storms, tornados, hurricanes and high winds. The Mississippi Mineral Resources Institute has partnered with a number of agencies and research centers with the goal of producing information that would be useful in lessening the affect natural hazards potentially have in Mississippi. Currently, work has focused on the University of Mississippi and the preparation of the University of Mississippi Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan. Partners in the preparation of the plan include the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Mississippi Emergency Management Agency and the Center For Community Earthquake Preparedness.
