Doctor Leonardo Macelloni is a native of Rome, Italy. In July 2001; he graduate in Geology, cum laude, from The University of Rome “La Sapienza”, one of the oldest and most prestigious Universities in Europe, with a Msc Thesis in Marine Geology concerning gravimetry and magnetic data of the Magdalena River off shore (Colombia S.A., Caribbean Sea). In September 2001, he started his PhD at School of Earth Science (focused in Marine Geophysics) at Department of Earth Science of The University of Rome “La Sapienza”. During this period he joined the Marine Geology Group working mainly on Volcano Slope Stability in Thyrrenian Islands (Ischia, Stromboli and Vulcano): a multidisciplinary research project founded by The Italian Civil Protection Department and involving several Italian Universities and Research Centers. From July 2003 to July 2004 He was a visiting scholar at Center for Marine Research and Environmental Technology at The University of Mississippi, with the goal to improve his basic skills and knowledge on high and very high resolution seismic technology and methodology. From this experience, in August 2004, a mixed group of scientist from The University of Mississippi and The University of Rome joined to use the first prototype Vertical Linear Array for high resolution investigation on submarine portions of volcanic islands in Thyrrenian Sea ( Stromboli and Ischia). Leonardo received his PhD on April 2005 with dissertation concerning digital processing of high and very high resolution marine seismic data. From September 2004 to October 2005 Leonardo worked as Assistant Research Professor in Geophysics for the Department of Hydraulic Transportation and Roads, School of Engineering at The University of Rome “La Sapienza”. During this period he served mainly as field survey coordinator for the first geophysical survey mapping the Tevere River using very high resolution swath bathymetry, very high resolution seismic and Side Scan Sonar. He also worked on geophysical data for archeological assessment and beach nourishment. In addition he was established in the faculty staff serving as Assistant Professor for Marine Geophysics (for The Bachelor of Science) and Applied Geophysics (for The Master in Environmental Engineering). Since November 2005 He joined the CMRET as Postdoctoral Research Assistant. Current research interests include support programs of the CMRET in the Gulf of Mexico Hydrates Monitoring Station project. Processing and interpreting seismic and multibeam data with particularly interest in polygonal faulting and seabed stability. Secondary responsibilities include assisting The Gulf of Mexico Hydrates Research Consortium participants and student engaged in research projects with the CMRET. Leonardo is member of Geological Society of Italy and Italian Group of Earth Solid Geophysics.
