Degree requirements:

Bachelor of Arts-- A MAJOR IN FRENCH FOR THE B.A. DEGREE requires 30 semester hours beyond the 200-level credits, including French 303, 304, and 331, and at least 9 hours at the 500 level. Students must complete a minimum of 9 of the 30 upper-division credits in residence on The University of Mississippi campus at Oxford, Tupelo, or Southaven. A maximum of 15 of the 30 upper-division credits for the major may be taken through an approved study abroad program.

A MINOR IN FRENCH requires the completion of 15 hours beyond the 200-level credits. A maximum of 9 credits for the minor may be taken through an approved study abroad program. French 303 and 304 are required for the minor.

Master of Arts--Two Master of Arts are available; in each, a comprehensive oral and written examination is required, based on an approved reading list and courses pursued. The first option requires 24 hours of graduate level work, a thesis, and at least nine hours in an minor field. The second option requires 36 hours of graduate level work with no thesis required. Up to twelve hours in a minor field may be taken with the approval of the Graduate Advisor.
