About this siteThe department of music was one of the first in the college of liberal arts to have its own site on the World Wide Web, beginning in 1994. The latest version of the department site made its debut in the fall of 2005. The organization of this site was suggested by the recruitment committee of the department of music. Other useful suggestions came from other faculty and students in the department, especially the graduate students in Music 520, Introduction to Research. Some of the material for this site is not yet available, so please bear with us as we complete the update. The graphic design of this site was created by Ryan Huber of Ryan Huber Design. The presentational features employ Cascading Style Sheets, supported by modern graphical browsers such as Internet Explorer 6, Firefox, Opera 8, and Netscape 7. Client-side scripting (so-called "Javascript," which has nothing to do with the Java programming language) is used only for the display of images on the home page; it is not needed for navigation on the site, which is accessible even when Javascript is not available, or not enabled. Banners, footers and other material repeated throughout the site are handled by the Server Side Include (SSI) facilities provided by the University's Apache web server. The markup on these pages conforms with HTML level 4.01 transitional. The entire contents of this site were marked up for the Web by Warren Steel, department webmaster since 1994. |
