Doctoral Degrees
The Doctor of Arts in music is a terminal degree designed specifically for persons interested in careers in music teaching. It combines intensive study in one field of music with two other secondary areas of music (always including music education as a primary or secondary area), twelve hours of study outside of music, study and supervised experiences designed to increase teaching effectiveness, and a doctoral essay.

Undergraduate through doctoral levels are offered, which give extensive preparation in choral music, music education, applied voice, and vocal pedagogy.

The music education curriculum is strong in conducting and methods courses for teacher preparation. Every graduate student is given hands-on experience in conducting a major ensemble.

Students studying with the voice and opera faculty have amassed a very impressive record of first-place awards in competitions sponsored by the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), the Metropolitan Opera, and the National Opera Association.
