Jazz Ensembles

The Mississippians is the premier jazz ensemble at Ole Miss. The Collegians provides an opportunity for students to learn jazz styles and improvisation skills. The bands perform standard big band and contemporary repertoire. Several performances are held on and off campus throughout the year.

Auditions for the approximately 18 member big bands are held during the first week of the fall semester. Auditions include a prepared jazz etude and sight-reading. . The etude will be made available the week of auditions. You will have the opportunity demonstrate improvisation skills if you wish.

Scholarships are available to students who perform in the Mississippians and are awarded based on merit and responsibilities within the ensemble. For further information contact Michael Worthy at mworthy@olemiss.edu
