Steven F. Brown
Steven F. Brown, professor of music, came to the University of
Mississippi in July 1999 and served as department chair until 2005.
He currently serves as associate dean in the College of Liberal Arts.
He previously served as chair of the department of music at
Northwest Missouri State University
in Maryville. Highly regarded for his work with college and
university choral ensembles, Brown has served as a choral clinician
and adjudicator throughout the midwestern and southwestern states.
He is the author of several articles in the fields of music perception
and instruction, published in the CRME Bulletin, Update,
and Journal of Research in Music Education. He is
co-author of the MENC publication What Works:
Instructional Strategies for the Music Classroom, and he
is presently completing a text for introductory music education
courses. He recently presented papers at the sixteenth annual National
Conference of Academic Chairpersons and the tenth International
Conference on College Teaching and Learning, and collaborated on a paper
"Use
of Self-Paced Computer Assisted Learning Modules in Music Appreciation"
at the 1998 Mid-South
Instructional Technologies Conference at Middle Tennessee State
University.
