Endowed Music Scholarships

The following scholarships are made available by donations from alumni and friends of the University. They are only offered if sufficient funding is available on an annual basis. For information on the qualifications for, and availability of, the following awards, please contact the faculty member designated below.

Dorothy Clark Thompson Keady ScholarshipB. Robinson

Recipients shall be full-time students in the Department of Music, program of Voice, who are Mississippi residents of the Mississippi Delta counties of Washington, Bolivar, Coahoma, Quitman, Tallahatchie-Sumner Judicial district only, Leflore, Sunflower, Holmes, Humphreys, Sharkey, and Issaquena, and also graduates of acceptable secondary educational schools located in the same. Recipient shall be chosen on the basis of scholastic ability, leadership potential, and financial need.

Celia Carter Muths Women's Council Scholarhip L. Foulkes-Levy

Recipient for scholarship may be an entering freshman, a currently enrolled student, or a transfer student. The Chair of the Music Department will appoint a committee to choose the recipient based on the criteria of demonstrated talent and creativity and scholastic ability. The recipient will be expected to participate in a leadership development program and mentoring program in addition to academic pursuits.

Wright Honorary Vocal Music ScholarshipR. Riggs

Awarded first, to Tupelo High School graduates; second, to students from Lee County; and lastly, to students not from Tupelo High or Lee County. Students must be recommended by the Voice Faculty of the Department of Music.

Mary Courtney Anderson Piano ScholarshipI. Hominick

Scholarship recipient may be an incoming Freshman, a transfer from an institution of higher learning or a currently enrolled University student. Recipient must show promising creative musicianship and must enroll as a full-time undergraduate student with a major in piano. Recipient must maintain a GPA of 2.8 or higher (on a 4.0 scale), be of good moral character and free of disciplinary problems. Scholarship recipient who is charged and convicted of a disciplinary problem will forfeit the scholarship at the end of the semester enrollment period.

Mark and Elaine Hoffman Memorial Scholarship N.M. Balach

Scholarship recipients shall be undergraduate or graduate students who are majoring in Music with an emphasis in either piano or voice. Selection shall be made by recommendation of the music faculty with the approval of the Department Chair.

Annie Lou Brown Ellis ScholarshipS. Rodgers

Awarded by a faculty committee of the Department of Music at the University of Mississippi to a deserving student who is dedicated to the study of piano as a career and who exemplifies the ideals of Mrs. Annie B. Ellis, including love of fellow man, superior insight and vision, and a dedication to the field of music. Winner shall appear in annual recital with the holders of the Brown-Ellis scholarships in piano.

Robert Hill McCormick AwardJ.W. Irvin & J. Aubrey

Awarded based on merit and need to students who are studying voice or music education as selected upon the recommendation of the music faculty.

John A. Noble ScholarshipJ.W. Irvin

Recipient shall be an individual who received their undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi and who is currently pursuing a graduate degree in music. Recipient shall be selected by a committee comprised of the Chairman of the Music Department, a woodwinds faculty member, and a member of the Music Department faculty. Criteria for selection of the recipient is to be based first, on financial need; second, on leadership, and finally, academic achievement. Preference shall be given first to woodwinds students.

Robert Y. Love ScholarshipJ. Aubrey

First preference for the award shall be given to music/vocal performance majors with second preference given to students in the School of Business Administration. Recipients must be full-time students who are making satisfactory academic progress toward a degree and maintain the GPA required by the Committee on Student Financial Aid.

Linda Trewolla Windham ScholarshipR. Burkhead

Recipients shall be full-time students who are pursuing an education in either music or any of the performing arts.

Christy Colbert Butler Memorial ScholarshipD. Trott

Recipients of the scholarship shall be full-time students who are recommended to the trustees of the fund by the Voice Faculty of the Department of Music.

Henry Arthur Nabors ScholarshipC.F. Linton

Awarded to graduate students in the performing arts on the basis of scholastic ability.

Krista Henry Vernon Memorial ScholarshipC. Gates

Recipients will be full-time undergraduate flute students majoring in Music who exemplify musicianship, academic excellence, and enthusiastic service. Selection will be by the Chair of the Department of Music after consultation with appropriate faculty members.

W. Kelly Clifford Memorial Jazz Band ScholarshipM. Worthy

Awarded to students with special talents in jazz band music.

Jazz Alumni ScholarshipM. Worthy

Awarded to promising young musicians on the basis of talent and need.

Ivy D. Spradling Band ScholarshipW. DeJournett

Recipients shall be full-time students who are members of the University band. Recipient shall be chosen by the Director of the Band with the approval of the Music Department Chair.

University Marching Band ScholarshipD. Willson

Awarded to a member of the University Band.

Frank W. and Ruby R. Gamblin ScholarshipR.F. Vernon

Awarded to students majoring in Mathematics, a Natural Science, Music or English.

John Gould Gardner Memorial ScholarshipD. Spurgeon

Awarded first to music majors from Adams County, then to students from state of Mississippi.

Sturdivant Band ScholarshipD. Willson

Awarded to a member of the University Band.

Alumni Association Band ScholarshipD. Willson

Recipient will be a full-time student who is a member of The University of Mississippi Pride of the South Band.

Lindsy Snell ScholarshipA. Spurgeon

Recipients will be full-time students pursuing a degree in music. Recipients will be chosen on the basis of scholastic ability, leadership potential, and financial need.

Isaac Eugene Brown FellowshipS. Rodgers

Awarded to outstanding piano students.

Richard Pharr Memorial ScholarshipM. Worthy

Recipient shall be a full-time undergraduate, who has transferred from Itawamba Community College and who is pursuing a major in music.

Mark Hoffman Piano Prize

Recipient shall be an undergraduate music major who is an outstanding piano student, and who exemplifies the ideals of the late Mark Hoffman, including a love of fellow man, superior insight and vision, and a dedication to the field of music as a vocation.

Louis E. Dollarhide Scholarship

Recipient will be a full-time student classified as a junior who is majoring in English, Art, Music, or Theatre in the College of Liberal Arts. Recommendations will be made by Professors, Chair of Departments, and/or Instructors. A committee selected and established by the Dean of the College of Liberal Arts or by his/her appointee will make the final selection of recipient.
