Ole Miss NROTC Alumni Reflections
Ted Hannah, Captain, USNR (Ret.)
Briefly, the Navy was the one of the best things that happened to me.
I attended Ole miss as a regular NROTC student from 1953 to 1957 and went into the flight program. I made two Westpac cruises on the Bon Homme Richard in VA 195 flying the A4 Skyhawk. I got out of the active duty Navy in 1963 and went into the engineering business as a structural engineer, eventually retiring as the CEO. I stayed active in the Naval Reserve, became CO of my reserve squadron and retired from the reserves as a Captain. I can not overemphasize how much the Navy has meant to me and I credit my success in the engineering business to the maturity and leadership I gained in the Navy. I also hope that if your students do not make a career of the Navy, that they will participate in a Reserve unit. My weekend drills were some of the best times in my life and I was actually being paid to fly Navy jets. And when you get to be my age, the retirement benefits are outstanding.
