NARRATIVE

Dr. Chambers joined the NCPA in 1994 as a Post Doctoral Research Associate. He is currently a Research Scientist II and Research Assistant Professor of Mechanical Engineering. He holds the following degrees: Bachelors (Mechanical Engineering, summa cum laude), 1990; and Ph.D. (Mechanical Engineering), 1994, The Georgia Institute Of Technology.

He is a member of: The Acoustical Society of America (member of the Physical Acoustics Technical Committee and Tutorials Committee), The American Society of Mechanical Engineers, Sigma Xi, Phi Kappa Phi, Tau Beta Pi, and Pi Tau Sigma.

He has reviewed papers for both the Journal of the Acoustical Society of America and Noise Control Engineering Journal and served as a technical session chair and on organizing committees for numerous scientific conferences. He has also served on multiple scientific panels such as the RCC-SMSG-SAM sensor group for the US Army, NATO Task Group 25 (Acoustics), and the working group on noise at the Transportation Research Board's conference on Environmental Research Needs in Transportation.

His areas of expertise include experimental, theoretical and computational analysis of outdoor sound propagation, blast waves, sonic boom propagation and the interaction of sound with porous media and sediments. Recent research activities include the propagation of sound over irregular or rough terrain and the influence of turbulence on propagation. Additional areas currently under investigation are the use of acoustics in aquaculture applications and measuring suspended sediments.
