The 78,000 square feet research facility was completed in 1989. The building was designed with acoustics research in mind. Six-foot diameter air conditioning ducts allow flow speeds to be small and background noise very low. Laboratories are isolated from each other with sealed walls and from the outside with noise control doors. Some laboratories are vibration isolated with springs. Others are completely enclosed with copper to provide a low EMI environment.

The labs include two "high bay" labs, an anechoic chamber, and a large open bay (100' x 50' x 16') that houses a jet noise lab complete with anechoic jet chamber, a wave tank and a wind tunnel. Also available are a clean room, a reading room, a conference room, a training laboratory and an acoustically isolated 80-seat auditorium. The facility was designed to accommodate classified materials up to the level of Secret.

Supporting the research effort is a fully equipped and automated machine shop, which houses modern, computer controlled machining equipment, welding facilities, and a carpentry shop (detailed equipment list). An electronics shop is available for developing prototype electronics and for maintenance and modification of almost all the computational and scientific equipment at the center.
