This project expands research on the detection and avoidance of landmines for military vehicles in transit, by means of a sonar concept that utilizes seismic interface waves.  New technology will be applied through the use of repetitive, man made, “baby earthquakes,” which propagate out and reflect off buried landmines.  The detected echoes will reveal landmine locations in front of moving military vehicles on the battlefield, enabling mine avoidance, minefield surveillance, as well as mapping.  The basic technology has been proven by the principal investigator. The present thrust is to develop research apparatus that can be taken to the field for mobile testing and further development for military use.
