$16,000-$19,000 THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI School of Engineering in conjunction with the Jamie Whitten National Center for Physical Acoustics (NCPA) is seeking qualified students to fill three positions as Graduate Research Assistants in Aeroacoustics. Aeroacoustics refers to the scientific study of noise generation created directly by turbulent fluid motion and by aerodynamic forces interacting with surfaces. The Aeroacoustics Faculty are dually appointed to both the School of Engineering and the NCPA with current research interests in compressible and incompressible turbulent mixing, fluid-structure interaction in high speed flows, transverse jets in supersonic flows, jet and cavity aeroacoustics, and high speed flow diagnostics. The successful candidate will be expected to work toward the M.S. or Ph.D. degree in Engineering Science (full tuition remittance with the GRA) and the stipend will be based upon the candidate's preparation for graduate work and the degree sought. Students are expected to contribute to one of the current NCPA research projects in aeroacoustics. The Graduate Research Assistantship appointment has expectations of half-time (i.e., 20 hours/week) research support during the regular academic year and full-time support (40 hours/week) during the summer session. The University of Mississippi is located in Oxford, a town of about 13,000 located in northeast Mississippi 75 miles southeast of Memphis, Tennessee. USA Today named Oxford one of "10 great places to soak up campus culture." Visitors can enjoy a stroll around Oxford's thriving Square; a trip to Rowan Oak, beloved antebellum home of Pulitzer Prize-winning author William Faulkner; or browsing in Square Books, lauded by The New Yorker as one of the country's finest independent bookstores. Founded in 1837, Oxford is proud of its "town/gown" relationship with Ole Miss. |
