SINGLE LOBE RIG (SLR)
The SLR is a dual stream jet model with nozzles designed to produce supersonic flows. The inner, or core, stream may be heated by combusting propane to a stagnation temperature of 1500oF. The outer stream is unheated. The model pictured above is situated in a trench that permits the delivery of high-pressure air via underground piping. This feature is important because the SLR will be housed within the anechoic (“echo-free”) chamber built by Eckel Industries. The high temperature gas flow will exhaust through an acoustically treated duct leading outside the National Center for Physical Acoustics.
