DIRECTOR
NATIONAL CENTER FOR PHYSICAL ACOUSTICS
THE UNIVERSITY OF MISSISSIPPI
SUMMER 2008
The University of Mississippi (UM) Oxford campus,
seeks an outstanding scientist to serve as Director of The National Center for
Physical Acoustics (NCPA). The Director will have a broad interest in acoustic,
aeroacoustic and engineering research. The Director will guide and oversee an
internationally renowned $18 Million program, supporting over 80 full time
faculty, staff and students, while maintaining his/her own vigorous research
program. The ideal candidate will have a documented history of research and
leadership success in Physics, Physical Acoustics, or Engineering, an
established national and international reputation of research excellence in
his/her respective field, experience in administration and/or evidence of
leadership skills, and a proven track record of generating external funding to
support the growth of the center?s research enterprise.
Reporting to the Vice Chancellor for Research and Sponsored Programs, the Director must possess:
an earned Ph.D. in Physics or Engineering from an accredited university, an
established publication record in Acoustics, experience in technology transfer,
and a major commitment to the education and mentoring of graduate students and
postdoctoral researchers.
The NCPA is located at UM in Oxford Mississippi, 75 miles south of Memphis Tennessee and the
Memphis International Airport. Oxford and the University together make a
wonderful place to live. The community provides many activities involving
literature, music, and the arts. There is also an ever growing community of
researchers including small high tech start-ups and offices of national research
and development companies.
