The Laboratory/Training Kitchen will be used primarily for education sessions and video production. It is designed for classroom, demonstration, and laboratory activities to enable sessions to remain in one location. The audience for the education sessions and video productions will be food service professionals in schools and child and adult care facilities throughout the country. NFSMI often uses the "turn-key' method of Instruction, that is, potential instructors, who attend on-site sessions, are oriented to NFSMI educational programs and laboratory experiences and in turn, teach personnel in their state or region. These sessions are presented by NFSMI specialists or guest instructors.
There are five lab stations, which can be configured with the appropriate equipment for various teaching activities. Almost all of the equipment is mobile with "quick connects" to allow flexibility in arrangement. Topics that may be addressed in this room include food production techniques and equipment use. In addition, NFSMI provides educational opportunities through satellite broadcasts, videos, and print materials. Filming for satellite seminars and videos will be completed more easily with these facilities. The kitchen is wired to allow computer and audiovisual capabilities delivered via a portable cart.
