Historical/Biographical Sketch:
On June 4, 1946, Congress approved the National School Lunch Act. This legislation states that it is a measure of national security to provide meals that meet minimum nutritional requirements, as outlined by the Secretary of Agriculture, to schools as part of a nonprofit School Lunch Program. This collection, donated by the state of Connecticut, contains items that document the legislative history of the School Lunch Program and its impact nationally in the schools.

Scope and Content:
The collection consists of school nutrition program evaluations, programs, copies of legislation concerning Child Nutrition Programs, and historical surveys of food programs.
