10:00-11:15 -- Session 1: Pre-1946 U.S. Federally Funded Feeding Programs
Dr. Martha Swain--Texas Woman's University The New Deal with Heart: WPA Feeding Programs for Children During Depression and War

Dr. Janet Poppendieck--City University of New York Before the [National School Lunch] Act: Federal Participation in School Meals in the Great Depression and World War II.

Dr. Devine will speak on the political environment in which the National School Lunch Act was signed.

1:00-2:15 -- Session 2: U.S. Federally Funded Child Nutrition Programs (CNP) Since 1946
Participants from state school food service programs, the School Nutrition Association, and former USDA/FNS officials discuss changes in CNP over the past 60 years and what the future holds for the programs.

2:15-2:45 -- Presentation by Shirley Watkins, former Under Secretary of Agriculture, on the role USDA/FNS plays in CNP.

2:45-3:00 -- Break

3:00-4:15 -- Closing Session: Recollections From the Front Lines of School Food Service
Life-long school food service professionals share their experiences and stories.
