Cooks For Kids: Spring Salads
Satellite Seminar
Presented: April 10, 2008

Description

Cooks for Kids is a new series of 30 minute satellite training programs from the National Food Service Management Institute that celebrates the fact that healthful food for children can, and should, be served everywhere.  We take you to kitchens in restaurants, schools, and at home to show you the tested techniques of preparing and serving healthful, appealing foods to children.

The bounty of the season's produce is highlighted as April's episode looks at appealing ways to prepare side salads and salads for a main course. At The Sidecar Restaurant in Ventura, California, Chef Tim Kilcoyne hits the mark preparing healthful salads using seasonal produce. A visit to the Ventura Unified School District gives us a chance to talk with Sandy Curwood, Director of Child Nutrition Services, about a school that showcases its farm-to-school program with the salad bar. We also take a look at how students are learning to grow their own vegetables which encourages them to try new vegetables.

Join us for this exciting series that focuses on preparing and serving delicious, healthful foods for children.
