Satellite Programs
Satellite programs presented through the NFSMI Nutrition Satellite Network consist of one-hour satellite seminars and ninety-minute to two-hour live teleconferences. Both types of satellite programs provide education and information on topics of importance to various levels of child nutrition professionals. Satellite viewing sites are encouraged to record one copy of these programs to be used for future training opportunities. Click here for current schedule.

Handouts (Participant Seminar Information)
Handout materials are provided to accompany NFSMI satellite programs, and are also valuable as a reference. These Participant Seminar Information packets are available in advance through your state coordinators or as downloadable documents by clicking here. Handout materials support the participant's learning experience and, along with the satellite program, make for a complete educational package.

Interaction
All NFSMI satellite programs feature interaction via our toll-free telephone line, 1-800-321-3054. Questions or comments may be phoned to our offices (8 a.m. - 5 p.m. central time) at any time after the original broadcast. Questions or comments may also be sent via email to nfsmi@olemiss.edu, or by fax at 1-800-321-3061.

NFSMI live teleconferences typically include a guest panel and provide opportunities for participants to submit questions and comments through various methods: toll-free telephone, e-mail, and fax. Questions may be submitted during or prior to the live teleconference.

Network Operations
The Institute works with a number of partners to provide opportunities for child nutrition personnel to participate in satellite program viewing events. These partners include state department of education child nutrition offices, state cooperative extension offices, community college networks, and state school food service associations who identify local viewing sites; provide information, announcements, and handout materials; and assist coordinating sites.

Participating in Satellite Program Training
Child nutrition personnel may participate in satellite programs in a number of ways:
  • Attending a viewing site. Click here to identify your state coordinator. Your coordinator can let you know about a viewing site near you, get handouts to you, and place you on their mailing list for updates about future satellite programs.

  • Establishing a viewing site. If there is no site near you, or if you would like to establish a site for child nutrition personnel in your area, contact your state coordinator for information. NFSMI can also provide information. Call 1-800-321-3054 or email nfsmi@olemiss.edu.

  • Videotape. Videotapes of satellite seminars with accompanying handout materials are available for sale within several weeks after the broadcast. Contact NFSMI to place your order.
