The School of Pharmacy at the University of Mississippi (Oxford Campus) is seeking a Chair for the Department of Pharmaceutics. The faculty of the department have research interests that include preformulation, solid-state chemistry, analytical methods development, and controlled release drug delivery systems for pharmaceuticals and nutraceuticals. The faculty's research is enhanced through joint appointments in the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences that includes the National Center for Natural Products Research, a pharmaceutical discovery center housed in a 115,000 square foot modern facility. The department is in the process of establishing the Laboratory for Advanced Pharmaceutics to assist companies and other research institutions transform lead compounds into marketed products. The Chair will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Pharmaceutics leading to B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharm. D., M.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics degrees.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics or closely related discipline, an established research program and experience in research administration, including fiscal and personnel management. Responsibilities include leadership of the department, enhancement of research, teaching and service activities of the department faculty and facilitating interaction with the faculty of the National Center for Natural Products Research and other academic units of the School of Pharmacy and the University. The University of Mississippi offers a competitive salary and benefits package. Academic rank at the Associate or Full Professorial level and salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This is a tenure-track, twelve-month appointment.
The School of Pharmacy is located on the main campus of the University of Mississippi in Oxford. The School is ranked in the top 20 in the nation for NIH funding and in the top 10 for graduating Ph.D. students. The School's Office of Business Development has successfully licensed several technologies discovered by faculty members. The desired appointment date is July 1, 2004, but is negotiable.
