Introduction

The Center for Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management (CPMM) was created by the Department of Pharmacy Administration in the School of Pharmacy at The University of Mississippi. Its creation was a natural outgrowth of the expertise and reputation of the department faculty, and it capitalizes on strategic partnerships with other departments of the University. Through its aquisition of external funds, those associated with CPMM focus their efforts on research, teaching, and service in the areas of medication use outcomes, pharmacy entrepreneurship, and pharmaceutical marketing.

The mission of the Center for Pharmacuetical Marketing and Management is to promote efficient and effective marketing and management of the products and services in all segments of the pharmacy and the pharmaceutical industry. The Center for Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management provides an environment where business and education can converge to exchange real-world research ideas, experience, findings, and information.

The Center for Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management is a center of excellence that advances research, teaching, and service in the areas of medication use and health outcomes, management of healthcare organizations, and the marketing and utilization of cost-saving and appropriate medications in all segments of the healthcare industry.

CPMM has an established history of securing funding from varied sources. Since its formation in 1999 it has received over $3 million dollars in external funding from Federal agencies including the Food and Drug Administration directly and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) through various Quality Assurance companies, non-profit associations, and various pharmaceutical companies.

The Center for Pharmaceutical Marketing and Management has also led to the creation of one spin-off company in Oxford, Mississippi and it has licensed one technology to a start-up company being formed in Oxford.

The offices and laboratories for the CPMM are located in Faser Hall on The University of Mississippi campus in Oxford. Staffing for the CPMM consists of full-time research faculty, research scientists, and staff in the Research Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, faculty in the Department of Pharmacy Administration who hold joint appointments in the CPMM, and graduate students in the Department of Pharmacy Administration.
