Division of Pharmacy Professional Development
MISSION AND GOALS STATEMENT

The Division of Pharmacy Professional Development is the service department of the School of Pharmacy at the University of Mississippi. The primary objective of the Division is to translate, transform and disseminate knowledge, research data, and recent developments in the pharmaceutical industry and public health. In other words, the Division specializes in adult education serving community and hospital pharmacists, drug wholesalers, industrial pharmacists, the pharmaceutical professions and allied health professions as these groups are concerned with drugs and pharmaceutical services. The Division of Pharmacy Professional Development's mission in the area of continuing education is to help meet the continuing education needs of the pharmacy profession with competent practice as its ultimate goal.

The Division has five (5) core roles:

  1. Education: This will be accomplished through the provision of live and written continuing education opportunities both at a local and a national level. These include continuing pharmacy education, certificate programs, distance learning programs and a non-traditional Pharm.D Program.
  2. Medication Therapy Management Services: These services include clinical skills development, on-site consultation on implementation, outcome assessment, reimbursement, protocol development and marketing services.
  3. Personnel Placement in a centralized manner: This service includes job fairs in retail, hospital, and manufacturer levels as well as residency showcases.
  4. Public Relations: This will involve the Division in Professional Pharmacy Development in providing public relations on the local and national level
  5. Drug Information Dissemination Coordination: This service includes both the School of Pharmacy on the Oxford campus and the Pharmacy Practice Department on the University of Mississippi Medical Center campus in Jackson.

Additionally, the Division strives to maintain the School of Pharmacy's high commitment to service for students and faculty. The Division is responsible for job placement and employment interviews. The Division assists with student activities, such as recruitment, student applicant interviews, graduation and award ceremonies, alumni activities, preceptor recruitment and student training sites, clinical visitation and public relations for the School of Pharmacy.

The Division of Pharmacy Professional Development works collaboratively with the continuing education network on the UMC campus in providing pharmaceutical information to other health care providers as well as the many constituencies each represents.
