HUMAN RESOURCES
The University of Mississippi Physical Plant Department (PPD) Human Resources Office is responsible for all new hires, transfers, promotions, and terminations for Physical Plant personnel. This unit also manages the employment process from the initial job opening through the recruitment process until a hire is made, including temporary and student employment. In addition, all employee leaves of absence are coordinated by this office, which provides guidance to both supervisors and employees regarding available types of leave.
Employee time and attendance records are processed to ensure correct payment for all leaves as well as accurate compensation for time worked.
The PPD Human Resources Office also assists in administering the University’s progressive disciplinary policy, assists in resolving workplace conflict, advises in matters related to staff personnel policies, procedures, and programs, and develops and implements new programs and policies.
SAFETY AND TRAINING
Safety and training is a new addition to the Physical Plant’s daily operations. This unit is tasked with employee development and training, promoting safe workplace practices, and maintaining a safe environment for work and study.
The safety component of this unit provides the following services to the campus community:
- Indoor air quality
- Asbestos assessment
- Mold inspection/remediation
- Regulatory compliance
- Van driver training
The training component of this unit provides services specific to the needs of Physical Plant employees and administrative staff. This unit assists in identifying, assessing, and closing the knowledge, skill, and attitude gaps that occur as a result of changing technology, customer needs, and the ongoing mission of the Physical Plant.

- Leadership development
- Safety awareness
- Injury investigation
- Train-the-trainer
This unit’s function is always evolving to meet the needs of its customers, both internally and externally.
