Work Orders
The Physical Plant Production Control Center creates and maintains all requests for the work order
system for the Physical Plant Department. Over 24000 work orders are processed annually by the Production
Control Center, averaging 150 to 200 daily. The work order system entails managing incoming requests,
as well as maintaining annual standing orders for the twenty-one PPD shops.
At the beginning of each fiscal year, over 700 routine and preventative maintenance standing orders are created for the shops by Production Control.
When a job is complete, each shop listed on the order is responsible for marking the work order as
technically complete. This indicates that all labor for the job has been posted to the order; however,
additional invoicing for materials may still be pending. Each month, the work orders are reviewed
for completeness and closed by the Production Control Center and charged to the appropriate accounts.
