Our dear friend and colleague Distinguished Research Professor Dr. Mack Breazeale passed away September 14, 2009 at his home in Oxford Mississippi. Mack was an expert in non-linear acoustics performing some of the seminal research in the field while at the University of Tennesse 1962-1995, and most recently at the University of Mississippi, 1995-2009.

Mack and his research group at the National Center for Physical Acoustics, University of Mississippi recently discovered a new form of acoustic memory in lithium niobate crystals, to mention one of his important accomplishments in his long and dedicated career.

Mack was made a Fellow of the Acoustical Society of America, held the Siver Medal in Physical Acoustics (1988), and received an IEEE Lifetime Achievement Award in 2008, a for "a five-decade-long career of major contributions to non-linear ultrasonics".
