The department offers undergraduate courses in the fields of American politics, comparative politics, international relations, and political methodology. Students in the College of Liberal Arts can major in political science, and students in most colleges and schools at the University can elect a minor in one of these fields.

  • Requirements for the Political Science Major

    The Political Science major requires at least 33 semester hours of Political Science courses with the following distributional requirements:

    1. All of these:
      POL 101 Introduction to American Politics (3)
      POL 102 Introduction to Comparative Politics (3) (previously POL 221)
      POL 103 Introduction to International Relations (3) (previously POL 231)
      POL 251 Introduction to Political Science Methods (3)
    2. Choose at least 21 additional credit hours from other courses in political science at the 300 level or above.
    3. A final grade of "C" or better in all Political Science courses is required to count toward the major, beginning in the fall, 2006 semester.
    4. At least 18 hours must be in non-Z graded courses at the 300 level or above.

  • Requirements for the Political Science Minor

    A MINOR IN POLITICAL SCIENCE consists of 18 hours chosen from the subfields of American government and politics, comparative government and politics, international relations, methodology, and must include Political Science 101. At least 9 hours must be at the 300 level or above.
    You cannot minor in Political Science if your major is Criminal Justice.

    A 'C' grade or higher is required in all Political Science courses to count toward fulfillment of the major or minor, beginning in the fall, 2006 semester.

  • Academic Advising

    Undergraduates in political science should see Cy Rosenblatt in 136 Deupree Hall for academic advising. Students should contact Mr. Rosenblatt by phone at 915-5407.

    You may also waive advising if you wish; however, you will still need to come to the department to have your advising hold lifted so you can register for classes.

    Once your hold has been lifted by the department, you can register for classes online.
