Alcohol and Drug Use

Many people chose to drink alcohol as a means to relax. However, individuals who have alcohol disorders drink to excess. The drinking begins to interfere with their daily functioning. The excess drinking may also impact the lives of both their family and friends. For most adults, moderate alcohol use would consist of no more than one to two drinks a day for men and one drink per day for females. A drink is defined as 1.4 ounces of spirits, 5 ounces of wine, or 12 ounces of beer all of which contain 0.5 ounces of alcohol. Individuals who abuse drugs and alcohol often fail to fulfill school, work or family obligations, and they may have legal problems related to their drug/alcohol use.
