The Psychological Services Center is an outpatient clinic that serves
undergraduate and graduate students, faculty and staff and their
children, and residents of Oxford and surrounding communities.
- The staff consists of a clinical manager, about twenty
therapists who are advanced doctoral students in Clinical Psychology, and
seven Licensed Clinical Psychologists who closely supervise all services.
- The graduate student therapists are well qualified to
deliver service as evidenced by the fact that, during their training
here, many are hired as therapists at mental health centers in Oxford,
Grenada, and Tupelo, and at the North Mississippi Medical Center's
Psychology Clinic in Tupelo. They also consult to organizations, such as
Rape Crisis Services, Oxford City Schools, and Baptist Childrens' Village.
- The services address family, relationship, and
self-concept problems as well as for problems that can be more severe,
such as depression, drug use, panic attacks and agoraphobia, and current
and past sexual assault.
Department faculty and doctoral students conduct and publish research in
such areas as eating disorders, anxiety disorders, drugs and alcohol,
sexual assault, attention deficit/hyperactivity disorders, childrens'
social relationships, and psychological tests. Although this research
never uses clients, it provides the basis for delivering 'state of the
art' mental health services. Staff know what approaches work best and
what approaches do not work at all.
All contacts with the Clinic are confidential. No information about
clients is released without either a client's written consent or a valid
Court order, except in cases of physical violence or child abuse.
