Systematic, evidence-based assessments within Psychiatric Residential Treatment Facilities (PRTF) aim to inform the clinical decision making process in order to maximize clinical care. An assessment protocol should

(a) be based on empirically-supported research,

(b) be relatively inexpensive,

(c) be easy to administer and

(d) provide easily interpretable information to therapists regarding the mental health status of their residents throughout the course of treatment.
