NIH requires education on the protection of human research participants for all investigators submitting NIH applications for grants or proposals for contracts, and those receiving new or non-competing awards for research involving human subjects.
As documentation that education has been completed, the NIH requires a letter, signed by an institution official, that includes the names of the key personnel who are responsible for the design and conduct of the proposed study; the title of the education program completed by each named individual; and a one-sentence description of the program. The timing of submission of documentation is in keeping with just-in-time procedures; that is, the NIH will request this letter documenting education before an award is issued.
The CITI program meets this requirement. Please contact Diane W. Lindley, CITI Training Coordinator, for more information.
