Technology Management
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, through its Division of Technology Management, stimulates, protects, manages, and transfers intellectual property from The University of Mississippi to the private sector for commercialization.
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs:
- Helps identify sponsored programs and projects with the potential to create marketable products, technologies, or techniques, and promotes the appropriate realization of such potential in the marketplace.
- Assists UM personnel in fulfilling their responsibility to cooperate with the University in patenting, licensing, and otherwise commercializing technology for which they are inventors under a sponsored project.
- Ensures that appropriate language is included in the sponsored research agreement establishing the relationship between the University and the sponsor should an invention arise from the sponsored project.
In addition, ORSP:
- Works to stimulate the development of alliances with corporate partners based on the technology strengths of the University in order to strengthen U.S. industry, especially industry in Mississippi.
- Works to ensure that inventions conceived and developed in University laboratories are protected and commercialized for the benefit of the inventors, the University, the State of Mississippi, and society.
