Dr. Mary
Carruth
Dr. Mary Carruth is Director of the Sarah Isom Center
for Women and Gender Studies. She is also an Adjunct Assistant
Professor of English. A native of New Orleans, she has a PhD
in English from Louisiana State University, with specializations
in early American and women's literature, autobiography, and feminist
theory. She teaches classes in gender studies and oversees the
Center's programs and the gender studies minor. Her critical collection, Feminist
Interventions in Early American Studies, was published by
the University of Alabama Press in October 2006.

Kevin Cozart
Kevin Cozart joined our staff in July 2007 as the coordinator of operations. A native Mississippian, he has been a member of the University's Staff for two years and is a member of the University's Staff Council. In addition to normal duties, he serves as liaison to the Gay-Straight Alliance and administrator of the ALLIES program. |

Shara Crookston
Shara Crookston joined our staff in Fall 2006 as a Graduate Assistant. She has a BA from Arizona State Univerity and a MA from the University of Alabama, both in Women's Studies. Her thesis title is "Who is in the Know? A Feminist Response to 60 Years of Seventeen Magazine's All-American Girl." Shara was referred to us by Professor of Higher Education and Isom Center Affiliate Dr. Amy Wells. She will be helping us develop violence prevention programming (including education about intimate partner violence and sexual assualt) and seeking out grants, all while pursuing a PhD in Higher Ed.

Hayley James
Hayley James, a UM English Major and Gender Studies Minor, joined us in August of 2007 as a federal work study student. Hayley is working towards Law School. We are happy to have Hayley join our staff!!
