MISSION

The mission of the Department of Social Work at the University of Mississippi is to provide students a sound base of knowledge, values, and skills from the generalist perspective which will enable them to work in a variety of entry level social work positions and will prepare them for entry into graduate schools of social work. This involves thorough grounding of students in both theoretical and practical frameworks on which the professional development of social work practice is based. This mission is carried out by a university faculty who provide students a sound liberal arts foundation and a social work faculty who provide the knowledge base, value base, and skills base of the profession of social work, emphasizing a commitment to the concepts of diversity and social justice. The integration of the liberal arts foundation and the generalist social work perspective produces graduates who can function effectively in entry level social work positions or go on to pursue graduate work in the field of social work or related professions.
