Participants at the Archie Lee Memorial Dulcimer Festival, Tishomingo State Park.
There is an active dulcimer player community within northeastern Mississippi, which is supported and strengthened by dulcimer clubs in several towns and a number of festivals in the area devoted to the instrument. While most of the players do not have longtime family ties to the instrument, many of them have gotten interested in the dulcimer through its accessibility (easy to play) and its ties to the culture of the local area (more closely connected to the culture of central Tennessee and northern Alabama than the rest of Mississippi).
