Memphis is seeking short and feature-length documentaries and narrative
films made in the South, about the South, or by Southerners. The Soul of
Southern Film Festival, to be held June 14-17, 2001, in Memphis,
Tennessee, is the first national film festival and competition to focus
exclusively on the expression of Southern culture, themes, and
sensibilities through the art of filmmaking. The festival has evolved from
the three-year-old Indie Memphis Delta Film Showcase, which last year
attracted an audience of 1,500. The Soul of Southern Film Festival will
feature a conference cosponsored by the Center for the Study of Southern
Culture. Early deadline: February 16, 2001. Late deadline: March 16, 2001.
Entry guidelines and forms available on the Web (www.indiememphis.com)
