At the start of the new century the Southern Culture Catalog has metamorphosed from a 40- page paper catalog to an on-line electronic catalog of the Center’s films, publications, and merchandise, with links to many sites featuring documentary films on the South. This new web site can be found through the Center’s site and directly at southfilm.com.

Visitors to the site can down-load short clips of the films. The site also offers opportunities for adding supporting material to accompany documentaries. The Center plans to develop the site as an educational resource for schools and colleges that wish to use multimedia in teaching about the South. The funding to produce the Web site came in part from a generous donation from Mr. and Mrs. Richard B. Wilson Jr., to honor the memory of R. Baxter Wilson, Class of 1927, Katherine Owen Wilson, Class of 1931, and Edwina Ford Barker Wilson, Class of 1927. Independent filmmakers such as Pat Mire (Louisiana) and Tom Davenport (North Carolina) have expressed their pleasure in this new direction for the catalog and recognized the potential for southfilm.com to make documentaries more widely accessible.
