Mary Lillian (Sue) Hart Celebrates Retirement

Staff members and friends recently honored Sue Hart on her retirement from the University after 16 years as research librarian and publications editor for the Center. In addition to her work editing the Southern Register, Hart was associate editor of the Encyclopedia of Southern Culture and coeditor of The Blues: A Bibliographic Guide.

Prior to joining the Center in 1979, Hart was research assistant of Afro-American Studies at Yale University and assistant editor of the Papers of Benjamin Franklin. While at Yale, Hart was director of exhibitions for the Benjamin Franklin collection at the Sterling Memorial Library including "The Boston Teaparty, 1773," "The American Revolution: The Miniatures of Arthur Szyk," and "The Declaration of Independence: Pro and Con, 1776."
