National Trust President Visits
Richard
Moe (left), president of the National Trust for Historic Preservation,
made a brief visit to Oxford on February 18. While here, he toured Barnard
Observatory, winner of a 1996 National Trust Honor Award; visited two National
Historic Landmarks, William Faulkner's home, Rowan Oak, and Mrs.
John Tatum's home, Ammadelle; and, at the Oxford Tourism Council's
headquarters on the Courthouse Square, spoke to members of the National
Trust, the Mississippi Heritage Trust, and the Oxford-Lafayette County
Heritage Foundation. Pictured with Moe are (center) preservation activist
C. Alton Hollingsworth of Port Gibson, Mississippi, and (right) Thomas
S. Howorth of Howorth and Associates Architects, sponsor of the visit.
