A superb documentary set in the small town of the title. Starting
with the murder of three civil rights workers (featured in the movie
Mississippi Burning) we learn that the community of Philadelphia
feels under particular scrutiny when it comes to issues of race
and civil rights. This film contains interviews with citizens of
present- day Philadelphia and considers the way education, employment,
policing, recreation and relationships are all effected by race.Members
of the first high school class to experience integration are interviewed,
as well as contemporary high school students.
The film is
thoughtful in its approach as it uses the town of Philadelphia to
raise issues of race facing America today.
