Waking in Mississippi documents the two-year contemporary history of Canton, Mississippi. In 1994/95, two community-wide events changed the face of the town forever; the election of Canton's first black mayor in 1994 and the filming of John Grisham's A Time to Kill in 1995.

   


This award-winning film brims over with stunning images of carnival play and a rich soundtrack of hot Cajun music. Cajun filmmaker Pat Mire gives us an entertaining, inside look at the colorful and exotic rural Cajun Mardi Gras.

 
   

 



For over half a century organized baseball denied African Americans a chance to earn a living playing the game. In response the Negro Leagues were created. These Negro League team were very important community institutions, and nowhere was this more true than in the segregated city of Memphis.
