Cook, Eat, Share

Cook Eat Share is an international group that is composed of a wide variety of cultural diversities, such as China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, France, Brazil, Ecuador, India, and America. The group meets once a week for two to two and half hours each time. Despite the wide range of cultural differences, every group member also has various levels of English comment and acculturalization degree. Food, a tool or a bridge, is the universal language that connects all the differences.

Cook Eat Share advocates cultural learning internally among group members and externally to the local community. An external example is hosting a luncheon or dinner seminar, offering authentic ethnic food and first-hand cultural information. Internally, members actively involve in the process of preparing, cooking, tasting food, and culture exchange within the group.

This Group meets on Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.  For more information, please contact Daphne Ingene at ceshare@olemiss.edu or call 662-915- 3784.

Just One-Breath

Through the ages the practice of meditation has taken many different forms, but the process appears to be one and the same: deliberate stillness and attention. And the benefits accrued from a sustained practice of meditation, whatever form the path might take, appear to be reliable ones: serenity, clarity, relaxation, self-assurance and compassion.

As a way of planting the seed of meditation in our community, the Just One-Breath sitting group meets Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 9:00 a.m. at the University Counseling Center. All students, faculty and staff are invited. For further information, contact Dean Worsham at 662-915-3784.

ALLIES

The ALLIES program seeks to foster a campus climate of safety, acceptance, support and respect for all students, regardless of sexual identity and orientation. Through the use of experiential exercises and accurate information, the program highlights and challenges common myths, misperceptions and biases regarding gays, lesbians and bisexuals. Students are alerted and educated as to the rights, respectful treatment and kind consideration of gay, lesbian and bisexual students. And faculty and staff are trained to serve as mentors and advocates for gay, lesbian and bisexual students in need. For more information on the ALLIES program, contact Vicki Mahan at 662-915-3789.

Way of the Heart
The aim of the Way of the Heart program is to heal the past and present wounds of racial separateness among those of us attending and working at the University of Mississippi, and in doing so, create true human community here at the University of Mississippi – a human community in which all persons are accorded dignity, respect and value. Carried out in a small group format over a seven-week period, each weekly meeting focuses on one or more key component skills in relieving emotional suffering, relating with loving kindness and building a healthy community. For more information on the Way of the Heart program, contact Susannah Furr 662-915-3788 or Dean Worsham at 662-915-3784.
